And here we have, on the one-year anniversary of "Magical Mystery Cure" airing, the release of an epic album to commerate the occasion
From HeyLasFas comes Destiny: A Tale of Unicorn Wings, a 1 hour and 50 minute long album that tells a story of expectations, duties, and learning what 'destiny' is truly defined by. This album has been in production since July 2012 - predating even the earliest rumours of Twilight becoming a princess - and no doubt it is a fantastic day for LasFas to see his work release to the general public. It's a phenomenal album, and I strongly recommend you listen and purchase it here. While you are there, you can also consider pre-ordering a physical copy featuring artwork created by myself. So what are you waiting for? Go and check it out, get the music playing, and come back here when you're done.
Done? Excellent! All I have to say now is that I hope you like the album cover. I'm pretty proud of it, especially since the wings worked out just fine and the lighting looks gorgeous. I spent hours just doing those two things, and I hope it shows.
My role in the production of the album was simply creating artwork such as this promotional poster and the album cover you see here. I officially started working on the artwork at the end of 2013, and it has been my priority since. Today is a special day, since it marks a pretty big milestone in my art career (for lack of a better term). I never would've thought I'd create artwork for an album, not when I only started drawing in late 2011 - and drew horribly. To have come so far is a long, long measurement, which only makes me eager to see where else my growing skills will take me.
Anyway! I hope you enjoy the album, and I look forward to a productive, art-filled 2014 with you all!
This would be a sick album cover.

I just realised... that is the same pane of glass that depicts when they defeated Nightmare Moon... and the only ponies you can make out(other than Twilight herself) are Rd and Flutters, both Pegasi... coincidence? I think NOT! Or is it? I just don't know...
You are actually mistaken, I'm afraid. I referenced a lesser-known window that appears in Season 2 Episode 1 - which also features the window chronicle of Nightmare Moon's defeat. The NMM window has a purple background and places all of the mane six towards the bottom while Nightmare Moon is placed at the top. The window I referenced represents the mane six's discovery and wielding of the Elements of Harmony, or more symbolically represents the power of their friendship.
I wasn't able to find a reference of the window I used anywhere online, so I had to screencap it several times to get it accurate. If you want to know what window I used, refer to the episode and watch the part where Discord is hopping among the windows. He sits in the "Friendship" window when Rainbow Dash tries to attack him, and Discord also dances on the depiction of Twilight in the same window.
I chose that scene over the NMM one due to its relevance to the album the cover was for. It was not about the mane six defeating Nightmare Moon or even remotely related to that. The album was focused on Twilight taking on her responsibilities as a new princess, and the difficulty in meeting her mentor's expectations while still maintaining her friendships in Ponyville. The "Friendship" window is much more relevant in that sense.
Having the glass depiction of Twilight left intact is no accident, the story the album tells is focused on Twilight, and sticks with her when the central conflict begins to grow. By this time, her friends have been pushed away from her by Twilight's overwhelming duties and the demands being made of her, which I feel is summed up nicely by having the rest of the ponies in window broken up mostly into shards.
There is a lot of symbolism pertaining to the album in this image. The window is one of the most telling symbols there, but there's plenty more to discover. It was fun working these details out when I started this project.
Huh... I never realised that. So that answers the first half of my question, but you didn't explain why the only two other ponies visible have wings (RD and Fluttershy). does that symbolise anything?
That's just the way things crumbled, unless you can glean some sort of abstract I wasn't conscious of
Sorry, I assumed there was a connection between the friend shown (TS, RD, and FS), who all have wings, and the album, titled Destiny: A Tale of Unicorn Wings. Maybe there is a connection we're both unawarre of, or maybe it's just me.
Or maybe I'm taking this way too seriously.
ERROR- PROCESSORS OVERLOAD- MELTDOWN IN THREE...TWO...ONE...
Looks really nice. Despite being about an ostensibly happy event, the picture has a rather somber tone with the shattering of all of Twilight's friends in the stained glass, Twilight's ambiguous expression and the general negative vibe given off by a broken window.
Great analysis. There is a lot of symbolism in this cover, all of which alludes to the events that take place in the album. Twilight and her friends are extremely important characters in the album's storyline - as well as their friendships.
I love dat silhouette!
Excellent! I was praying that it work out alright. The lighting was a pain to get right.
Want to hug her so much.... but the glass prevent me to.... Aww...
Wonderful work. This is an awesome idea.
Wonderful work. This is an awesome idea.
The idea was created between HeyLasFas and I. He gave some very important elements to think about, and I later tied them together with extra thoughts and my final pen strokes. This picture wouldn't be half as cool if it were not for LasFas' input.
I want this album so bad... I feel so sad my paypal is zeroed out...
I like the reflections of the wings/stained glass on the floor that's a neat detail... Oh, man I dunno how I missed it. But on the full sized I finally got that the window had been broken and took the shape of wings, I was wondering where that glass came from in the regular size 6_9 derpy me.. hehe very neat!
The reflections were almost not added in, I had a little extra time on my hands and decided to include the wing reflection on the floor for added detail.
I'm going to refrain myself from speaking about music (HeyLasFas' litigation is still in process from last time... ), but the cover is indeed awesome.
Has it really been a year???
I would make a really silly pun referencing a lyric in Destiny, but rather, I just want to say that this is absolutely brilliant.
I mean seriously, look at the art you started drawing, and now look how incredible this and the poster is.
Like seriously, amazing work. I'm glad you were onboard this project.
