"I tightened the bandage around my leg. The fall had taken me by surprise, and I had forgotten that I could fly... again, which led to getting hurt. It wasn't too bad, just a teensy bit of blood, but it was all taken care of now.
"I walked up to the ledge on the top of a hill. Where there used to be green grass and rich soil was just the many slabs of rock that lay beneath the ground, now exposed for all to see. I looked out into the distance, looking at the towns and villages I could see in the smoke, hoping to find a pony so that I wouldn't be alone."
"Instead, I saw a vast display of carnage, of towns burning in solitude after the ponies who inhabited them had vanished. I felt uneasy, my heart filled with dread as it began to become more and more likely that I was the only pony around.
"I frowned, trying to look for a purpose in the disaster zone I was in. There had to be something I could do, something that would help me be brave, and allow myself to canter on with courage. I set my eyes on a nondescript landmark, and started making my way there, all the while thinking of what to do next."
Edit (14th Dec '12): This scene is now non-canon to the fanfic, due to the artwork being redrawn and the excerpt being rewritten. There are two newer scenes that essentially replace this one, you can find them here
I've been kinda focused on Fluttershy recently, I'm not too certain why, but I've come to realise out of this focus that she is a lot more fun to draw than anypony I've already drawn.
I've also been playing a lot of Fallout 3...
