(Preview) Survivor Shy - Prologue by Mattatatta (Preview) Survivor Shy - Prologue by Mattatatta
Since I'm taking a long time with the upcoming update, I'm uploading one of the finished parts here for everyone's enjoyment and to build a little hype and speculation.

This upcoming update is going to be a vertical comic that covers everything up until 'Help!' ([link]), explaining the last few days before everything went wrong, and what was being done to try to prevent it.

This particular part shows Fluttershy sending off her report to Spike, who is in Canterlot with Twilight. It lacks dialogue boxes and other things, and the black void is going to be used when the comic's parts are assembled for a seamless transition.

The whole comic is a lot of experiments. I'm trying to do the entire comic without using the lineart tool - except for the neat borders around the images - to force me to use and adapt my traditional drawing style, where stability options and line editing tools are not available. It's harder, it's slower, but it's also a fair and much needed challenge.

Anyway, I've got a long way to go yet, but after spending a lot of time agonising over this part and trying to find my feet as it were, I reckon I can step up production speed. I'm much more confident that I can create this comic up to my standards without the lineart tools now, so I won't be seeing this comic as a monolith that wants to cast a shadow on me.

In the meantime, feel free to speculate and leave your feedback. I'm sorry for the slow updates, and I hope that proof that I'm still working on this is assuring.

I really like her mane. So much volume. ^^
The entire Fluttershy looks extremely cute, especially in the first panel. :iconflutterhappyplz:
You've done wonders with the lighting.
One thing you might want to fix is her ear in the first panel. The end that connects to her head should probably be a bit more pointy.

Gonna be interesting to read once it's done. :)

Yeah, I forgot to edit sharpen that with an eraser, it's pretty blunt because I was trying to find a better balance for my tablet settings so free-hand drawing is better for me. I usually use lineart tools to create, edit, and fix my lines, and while the end result is clean and pretty, it's not really making me improve my hand-drawing. So while working on this part of the comic, I was fiddling with settings and preferences so that the program will behave in a way I'm more comfortable with, and I simply didn't use anything more than the Pen, Watercolour, Bucket, and Eraser tools (which is how the the entire comic is going to be produced).

I'm happy with what I've got here either way, blunt lines and all.

It's coming, I've just got to draw all the unfinished parts and put it all together.

So is it enchanted paper that gets sent to Spike when it is burned?

Pretty much, but I'll be detailing that in the finished comic anyway.

1. Slice up magic paper and distribute it in packs as rolling papers.
2. Ponies use them to roll up cigarettes.
3. Ponies on a smoke break take them out and light them.
4. Free cigarettes?

The paper is only single use, unless enchanted again, and only the paper would travel, not the tobacco. Troll physics can only claim "infinite paper", but even that is flawed, because paper that has been written on so much - to the point there is nowhere to write anything more - that they won't be used any more for correspondence.

Oh well, thought it was worth a try since other letters were able to carry small objects (tickets, disappearing ink). No one in Equestria probably smokes anyway. ;)
